Syncrostore vs. Ricochet POS

Ricochet is a well-reviewed consignment POS with a low starting price, and for a single consignment shop it is a reasonable choice. The differences show up as a store gets bigger: what the plan price is tied to, what it costs to pay a few hundred vendors every month, and what happens when a vendor’s rent is more than their sales.

Read the plan price and the card rate together

Ricochet’s three plans are priced against its card rate. The cheaper the plan, the more you pay on every card sale. Keeping your own processor instead adds $100/mo.

Syncrostore price shown with SyncroPay™ and Vendor Choice Pricing, where participating vendors cover processing through card pricing and other vendors are charged the fee on their own card sales. $329.99/mo if you bring your own processor. Ricochet’s middle plan, Reach, is $149/mo at 2.99%.

Lead costs $100/mo more than Core and takes 0.60% less per card sale. That evens out at about $16,700 a month in card sales. Above that, Lead is the cheaper Ricochet plan, so it is the one a busy vendor mall should price against.

Paying vendors

The payout fee is multiplied by every vendor, every month

Ricochet charges a flat $2 per ACH payout. SyncroACH™ charges $1.37 per standard payout plus a $25/mo program fee. Below 40 ACH payouts a month, Ricochet costs less. Above it, SyncroACH™ does, and the gap grows with the store.

✓100 vendors paid by ACH: $200/mo on Ricochet, $162/mo on SyncroACH™
✓200 vendors paid by ACH: $400/mo on Ricochet, $299/mo on SyncroACH™
✓You decide whether the store or the vendor carries the SyncroACH™ fee
✓One settlement run pays every vendor by ACH or printed check, each with an itemized statement

Ricochet also pays out to Venmo, PayPal and gift cards through Tango, which Syncrostore does not. See all SyncroACH™ rates.

When rent is more than sales

Ricochet takes booth rent out of the vendor’s store credit. If there is not enough, the account goes negative and is paid back from future sales. Ricochet’s help center notes it does not hold vendors’ bank details for collecting payments.

Syncrostore carries the balance the same way by default. Vendors can also opt in to SyncroACH™ auto-debit, so rent and fees their sales did not cover are pulled from their bank account instead of chased by hand.

In a store with a few hundred vendors, that is the difference between a list of negative balances and a month that closes.

Where the products differ

Several stores

One payout per vendor, across every store

In Ricochet, booth rent is set up per location. On Syncrostore Enterprise, settlements are combined across stores: a vendor in three of your stores gets one deposit, with anything owed in one store netted against sales in another.

Card fees

Dual pricing that reports on itself

Vendor Choice Pricing is built into the Syncrostore register and shows both prices automatically. The Dual-Pricing Savings Report shows what it offset over any date range. Ricochet’s site does not list a dual-pricing option.

Store mapping

See where the money comes from

Syncrostore draws your store in 2D and 3D and shades it by sales over any date range, with vacancies on the plan. Ricochet’s site does not list a store map.

Online sales

Marketplace or web store

Ricochet Web is an online store for your shop, included on Reach and Lead. Syncrostore connects to TrinketVault™, a built-in vendor marketplace, and online orders land on the same vendor ledger as in-store sales.

Where Ricochet is strong

A low price to start

A $99 entry plan, a 14-day free trial, published card rates, a built-in rewards program and payouts to Venmo or PayPal. For a single consignment shop with modest card volume, those count for a lot.

Questions worth asking either of us

Which Ricochet plan should a busy store compare against?

Usually Lead. Ricochet’s plans are priced against card rates: Lead costs $100/mo more than Core but takes 0.60% less on every card sale. Above about $16,700 a month in card sales, Lead is the cheaper Ricochet plan overall.

What will it cost to pay my vendors each month?

Count the vendors you pay by ACH. Ricochet charges $2 per ACH payout. SyncroACH™ charges $1.37 per standard payout plus a $25/mo program fee, so it costs less once you send more than 40 ACH payouts a month.

What happens when a vendor’s rent is more than their sales?

In both systems the shortfall carries on the vendor’s balance and settles against future sales. Syncrostore vendors can also opt in to SyncroACH™ auto-debit, so what they owe is pulled from their bank account instead of carried.

Can I migrate out later?

Ask both of us how you get your vendor ledgers and inventory out. A company that will not answer that clearly is telling you something.
